The Georgia Bulldogs earned a major defensive transfer from an SEC rival. Auburn outside linebacker Amaris Williams has transferred to the Georgia Bulldogs, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Williams was a four-star transfer and the No. 5 edge rusher and No. 29 player in the portal. Before his time at Auburn, he was a five-star recruit, ranked as the No. 30 player in the class of 2024.

It didn’t materialize in Auburn. Wiliams never started a game, garnering just 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Still, with his potential, he came to the right place to develop his skillset.

Georgia was missing someone on the line who can generate pressures. Christen Miller was the only non-linebacker with more than one sack (1.5). Georgia’s lack of a pass rush showed in their 39-34 loss to Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. They didn’t sack Trinidad Chambliss at all and his mobility allowed him to dissect Georgia’s defense.

Georgia has also loaded up on the secondary via the portal, getting Clemson safety Khalil Barnes and USC cornerback Brayden Conley. However, Williams living up to his five-star potential is paramount to adding a level to Georgia’s defense they’ve been missing since the national championship years.
