NCAA college football | Mount Union wins 36th Ohio Athletic Conference championship

MARIETTA — Another year, another Ohio Athletic Conference championship for the Mount Union football team.

The Purple Raiders won their ninth straight conference title and 36th overall on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they beat Marietta 30-19. Mount Union (9-0, 7-0) earned the OAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. It will be their 36th postseason appearance, the most in Division III history.

Davion Grant caught a season-high nine passes for 170 yards to help lead Mount Union’s offense. His second touchdown, a 37-yard catch, closed out the scoring.

Quarterback Mikey Maloney finished 20 for 31 for 268 yards with three touchdowns. It was Maloney’s third straight game with three TD passes. He also ran for a score.

Mount Union’s defense held Marietta senior Vante’ Hodges to 34 yards rushing, the lowest since his sophomore year. Hodges came in leading the OAC in rushing with an average of 135.8 yards per game.
