The NCCA football community was stunned on Monday when news broke that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby was stepping away from the team to seek treatment for gambling addiction.

“Sources: Texas Tech transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby is checking into a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction. He’s under NCAA investigation in the wake of the discovery of Sorsby making thousands of bets via a gambling app,” reported ESPN’s senior college football insider, Pete Thamel.

Thamel then followed up with what Sorsby was alleged to have bet on.

“According to ESPN sources, Sorsby bet on Indiana football while redshirting for IU as a true freshman in 2022, a season in which he played in a single game as a reserve. The bets in 2022, per sources, were on Indiana to win and none came in a game in which Sorsby appeared.”

After the news broke, it didn’t take long for the NCAA to release an official statement.

“Due to confidentiality rules put in place by NCAA member schools, the NCAA will not comment on current, pending or potential investigations. However, the NCAA takes sports betting very seriously and is committed to the protection of student-athlete well-being and the integrity of competition. The Association works with integrity monitoring services, state regulators and other stakeholders to conduct appropriate due diligence whenever reports are received.”

Hopefully, Sorsby gets all the help that he needs and can continue his collegiate career.
