NCAA Reveals Decision On Trinidad Chambliss’ Appeal For 6th College Football Season

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been seeking a waiver to play college football next season.

Chambliss wants to be eligible for a sixth season, but ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that the NCAA has denied his waiver. The waiver was for a medical redshirt, and the school has been notified.

Despite this news, Chambliss’ lawyers have filed for an injunction in the Mississippi state court. The case is set to be heard on Feb. 12. Chambliss is hoping to receive a redshirt year, as he didn’t play in his second season at Ferris State.

Chambliss helped Ole Miss to an 11-1 record during the regular season, clinching a spot for the program in the College Football Playoff. He led Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals before losing to Miami in a great back-and-forth game.

Chambliss finished the 2025 season with SEC-best 3,937 yards through the air, 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

If he can’t play next season, Ole Miss would turn to Deuce Knight after the program brought him in from Auburn. Knight finished the 2025 season with 259 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions through two games. He’s a former five-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
