“NCAA Will Never Overturn This” CFB Fans React As MAC Appeals Michigan-WMU Result Over Replay Protocol

In Saturday’s game last week, the Western Michigan Broncos appeared to have secured a 12–7 victory over the Michigan Wolverines as time ran out. With nine seconds remaining, Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood launched a Hail Mary pass into the end zone that fell incomplete after being touched by Broncos safety Micah Davis.
Upon review, game officials determined Davis had touched the ball with one second remaining. They restored time to the clock and awarded the Wolverines one final play. The decision seemed controversial as NBC’s broadcast showed both its digital game clock and its synced recording of the stadium clock at zero when Davis made contact.
Given new life, Underwood heaved another pass toward the end zone, connecting with wide receiver JJ Buchanan for a 47-yard touchdown. The single play changed the outcome of the game from a 12–7 Western Michigan upset to a 13–12 Michigan victory.
CFB Fans React As MAC Appeals Michigan-WMU Result
Now, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) has taken formal action, filing an appeal with the NCAA FBS Oversight Committee and the College Football Playoff, challenging the game’s results. Following an investigation, the MAC stated that the replay protocol was not properly followed in determining whether time remained on the clock.
The established protocol requires using the game clock displayed on the program feed, which showed that time had already expired. Instead, the Big Ten Conference replay crew relied on an unsynchronized clock feed embedded within its own replay system. The conference stressed that this was an error in applying the protocol rather than a subjective judgment call.
The MAC is now formally requesting that national oversight bodies recognize the Broncos as the actual winner for the purposes of rankings, committee evaluations, and playoff selection deliberations. College football fans across the country reacted to the change in stance:

“The entire country coming together to get behind WMU,” one wrote.
“Proof that sports are fake and rigged,” one fan wrote.
“Make this obvious injustice right,” another wrote.
“Yes justice for western Michigan,” another wrote.
The NCAA, however, is saying that the Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee does not have the authority to overturn the outcome of a game. NCAA football playing rules contain no protocol for altering a result once declared final. According to ESPN, Article 9 of the rulebook states:
“No rule decision may be changed after the ball is next legally snapped, legally free-kicked or the second or fourth periods have ended.”
The controversial finish also prompted the NCAA to issue an official clarification:
“The official time for all college football games is the time displayed on the in-stadium game clock,” the NCAA’s memo stated.
Going forward, whenever referees change the game time during a review, they will look at the clock on the official TV feed. Let’s see if the victory is snatched from the Wolverines and handed to WMU.
