Nearly 50 blue-chip prospects in the 2027 cycle reside in Georgia

The state of Georgia is now on the top rung of the high school football ladder. That’s evident when looking at the amount of senior blue-chip prospects in the Peach State.

As of Aug. 10, there are 46 blue-chippers in Georgia in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. All but one — four-star LB Trace Washington — of the 46 prospects are already committed.

Those commitments have dispersed among 22 schools. Eleven of the 16 SEC schools have landed at least one blue-chipper inside Georgia. The UGA Bulldogs have swiped their fair share, while Georgia State also has a four-star in its class in athlete Justin Murphy.

There’s a few positions featured heavily throughout the top of the player rankings. Of the top 46 prospects in the state, eight are safeties. There’s also seven linebackers, six running backs, five offensive tackles and four EDGEs.

Rivals takes a look at the top Georgia prospects in the cycle and where they are currently committed ahead of football season:

1. EDGE David Jacobs — Ohio State

Scouting Summary: “Athletically gifted EDGE defender who thrives as an edge setter in the run game and is a multi-faceted pass rusher. Verified 6-foot-5, 235-pound defender with excellent bend and hand usage. In the run game, he is violent with his hands when shocking blockers at the point of attack. As a rusher, he wins with a great burst off the line of scrimmage that lets him get vertical in a hurry to blow by tackles with speed. But he can also convert that speed to power and bull pass protectors into the quarterback.

…He will need to continue harnessing his ability to gain leverage due to his below-average length, but Jacobs has the physical tools and tenacity to be an immediate impact player the moment he steps on campus. 2. S Kamarui Dorsey — Texas A&M

Scouting Summary: “Physically imposing, versatile safety prospect that plays with violence in the run game who has massive range as a middle of the field rover. Verified 6-foot-3, 200 pounds with great length. Two-way player who doubles as a receiver for his high school program. Shows excellent movement skills on tape on both sides of the ball and in the camp circuit. Has great long-speed in order to cover sideline to sideline as a center fielder or when coming downhill to run the alley. Excellent trigger when working downhill and has no problem detonating ball carriers, very comfortable around the box. Has the ability to play man coverage in the slot or outside.

…Needs to continue developing hip flexibility and fluidity in order to be more reliable as a coverage player in the underneath and intermediate levels of the field. Has the ability to walk in and compete as a heavy nickel early on at the next level that will eventually develop into a true three-dimensional defensive back that has the ability to play man, zone, and stop the run.” — Bellaire

3. EDGE K.J. Green — LSU

School: Stephenson

Committed Since: June 7

About: Green chose the Tigers over a loaded offer sheet that also includes the likes of South Carolina, Oregon, Georgia and Alabama. He committed after taking his official visit to Baton Rouge. Green is poised for a monster senior campaign at Stephenson High. As a junior, he tallied 129 total tackles, 40 of which went for a loss of yards. He racked up 18 sacks over 13 games, according to MaxPreps. Over the last three seasons, he’s had more than 200 tackles.

4. WR Jaden Upshaw — Texas A&M

School: Lee County
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 57 NATL. (No. 9 WR)
Committed Since: April 15

Upshaw on his commitment: “I’m an Aggie,” Upshaw told Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “Since that first visit for the Florida game, it’s been a different feeling for me out there. Getting back out there for the second visit, it just felt right. It felt like home. Being around the coaches, hearing how they want me and just seeing everything, it helped me make my decision.” … “The main focus is on A&M now. I’m fully committed.”

5. CB Chance Gilbert — Auburn

School: East Coweta
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 62 NATL. (No. 9 CB)
Committed Since: June 8

Scouting Summary: “Versatile defensive back with a well-rounded combination of athleticism, ball skills, and overall coordination. Measured in at around 5-foot-11.5, 175 pounds with solid length prior to his senior season. Lines up at corner, safety, wide receiver, and kick returner for his high school team. Flashes a smooth, quick back pedal in coverage. Easily transitions from his pedal and has the long speed to run stride for stride with receivers on vertical routes. Good overall reactive quickness in man coverage. Shows quality instincts in coverage, both at corner and safety, jumping routes to make plays on the football. Finished his junior season with three picks and 11 pass breakups. Shows some physicality and striking power despite not being the biggest defensive back at this stage. Athleticism and playmaking ability is apparent on offense and special teams.

…Scored four different ways as a junior: receiving, rushing, kickoff return, and interception return. Long speed is apparent once he gets to the second level. Doubles as a talented sprinter with a personal best of 10.57 seconds in the 100 meters as a sophomore. Looks to have the highest upside at corner at this stage and will need to continue adding mass and strength. 6. S Ta’Shawn Poole — Florida State

Poole on his commitment: “The culture, the tradition and the relationships I have with all the coaches. My aunt is an alum, too. That was not a big part of the decision, but it feels great now,” he told Rivals. “I just have great relationships with everybody there. My connections with the coaches at Florida State were different. The energy, the family, the people, the fans, the coaches, the GMs, the trainers — even outside of football. Everything about it stood out to me.”

7. OT Kennedee Jackson — Georgia

School: Lithonia
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 86 NATL. (No. 7 OT)
Committed Since: June 13

Scouting Summary: “Big-framed offensive tackle with projectable length and functional athleticism at the position. Measured in at 6-foot-5.5, 301 pounds at the Rivals camp in Nashville prior to his senior season. Has plus length with a 6-foot-11 wing-span. Added 20 pounds in a matter of months. Registers as a solid athlete in the combine setting. Emerged as a national recruit as a junior. Primarily lines up at left tackle for his high school team. Fires off the ball as a drive blocker and gets a push in the run game. Shows pop in his hands at the point of attack and drives his feet once engaged. A quality functional mover. Can get to the second level and reach linebackers.

…Able to recover in pass protection and also shows a good anchor. Also plays defensive line, showing his athleticism on that side of the ball. Still developing his pass set technique, but has the movement skills to develop with coaching and reps. Can also continue improving his pad level as a taller offensive tackle. Has the translatable tools to develop into a starting offensive tackle at the Power 4 level with the upside to be an all-league and NFL Draft talent.” — Power

8. IOL Jordan Agbanoma — Nebraska

Agbanoma on his commitment: “Seeing how Coach (Geep) Wade and Coach (Matt) Rhule coach, spending time with the players and seeing the city — I left that visit feeling good,” Agbanoma told Rivals. “I didn’t make the decision that day, but a few weeks later, I felt great about Nebraska. It has been a long journey, but this is my commitment and I am done with the recruiting process … “It is a great place,” he said. “Everything is centered around football. Nebraska is all that is out there. The fans love the program and the players. I love the program.”

9. S KJ Caldwell — NC State

School: Parkview
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 141 NATL. (No. 8 S)
Committed Since: May 22

Caldwell on his commitment: “Really just relationships,” he told Rivals. “Relationships with Coach Warren and the staff in general were just different. And then the culture made a big impact on my decision too. It is a family environment. It’s somewhere that I know I could be for three to four years.” … “They really were showing me that they really, really wanted me these past couple months. They’ve really been making a push to get me to Raleigh.”

10. RB Gary Walker — Clemson

School: Creekside
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 143 NATL. (No. 8 RB)
Committed Since: May 20

Scouting Summary: “Ascending running back with an aggressive, downhill running style. Measured in at a shade over 5-foot-11, 205 pounds prior to his senior season. Turned in a breakout junior campaign, leading his high school to an undefeated 16-0 state championship season. Decisive runner who quickly reads his blocks and works to get downhill with vigor. A “one cut and go” runner. Shows the ability to run through and spin out of arm tackles at the second level. Defenders will need to wrap up, as he will fight and break free, resulting in long runs. Has a loping, easy stride in the open field and shows the top gear to pull away. Can hit the home run with seven touchdowns from 40 or more yards out as a junior.

…Finished his junior season with 1,669 yards and 20 touchdowns at 9.4 yards per carry. Came up big in a tight state title game, rushing for 143 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Lacks verified speed metrics, but top gear looks good on film. Has limited pass-catching production. Junior season breakout gives him the look of a rising prospect who has the potential to be a bell cow at the Power 4 level.” — Power
