The first projections for the 2026 college football season are starting to come out and one major publication has the Cornhuskers bowling this fall. Bill Bender from the Sporting News predicts that the Huskers will play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Lockheed Armed Forces Bowl.
Neither school has ever played in the Armed Forces Bowl, but they do have a history with one another. Nebraska and South Carolina have met four times, with the Huskers holding a 3-1 series lead.
The schools met in the regular season in 1964, 1986 and 1987. They also have postseason history with one another, having played in the 2011 Capital One Bowl, which the Gamecocks won 30-13.
The Huskers have an extensive bowl game history, having played in 55 postseason contests with a record of 27-28. Coach Matt Rhule enters his fourth season in Lincoln with a 19-19 record at Nebraska and has led the team to two bowl games (1-1).
The Gamecocks have participated in 26 bowl games with a 10-16 mark. They are led by Shane Beamer, who enters his sixth season as head coach and holds a record of 33-30 with three bowl game appearances (1-2).
The Lockheed Armed Forces Bowl is scheduled for Dec. 23 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
