Nebraska is down one of its top early commitments in the 2027 class, as four-star Thomas County Central (Ga.) wideout Jabari Watkins announced his decision to reopen his recruitment on Thursday.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder chose the Cornhuskers on back on Sept. 26 and was one of two wide receiver commits in the 2027 class, alongside three-star Tay Ellis. At the time, he picked NU over Georgia, Texas A&M and South Carolina and a host of other programs.
Nebraska offered Watkins in May, but he later committed without ever having visited the Huskers’ campus. He visited both Florida State and Illinois this fall, but never made it up to Lincoln. His decision drops the Huskers to six commitments in the 2027 class, where they’ve had a significant amount of early success.
Watkins was one of four blue-chip pledges for Matt Rhule and Co., joining elite safety Tory Pittman, No. 4 quarterback Trae Taylor, and four-star running back Amir Brown.
As a sophomore, Watkins totaled 692 receiving yards and five touchdowns, averaging nearly 18 yards per reception. This fall as a junior, he helped lead Thomas County Central to a Georgia 7A state title while hauling in 57 passes for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He is the No. 303 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
Watkins also ranks as the nation’s No. 38 wide receiver and No. 35 recruit in the Peach State.
