Nebraska Opens the Season As Heavy Favorites Over Ohio

Nebraska’s football season starts on Saturday. They will play Ohio at Memorial Stadium in an 11am matchup. According to Fan Duel, the Huskers are 23.5 point favorites with the overs being 46.5 points.
The Huskers are looking to build off of their second straight 7-6 season. This is the first time since the 2013-2014 season that the Huskers have had back to back winning seasons.
After two years with Dylan Raiola leading the offense, Nebraska will have a new quarterback in Anthony Colandrea. Colandrea comes to Nebraska from UNLV where he played for one season and amassed 3,459 yards passing and 23 touchdowns, averaging over 250 yards a game. He was the Mountain West Player of the Year in 2025.
The Huskers return six starters from the 2025 top 30 defense. Those returners are headlined by Cameron Lenhardt, Vincent Shavers Jr., and Andrew Marshall.
On the other side we have Ohio. They have a new coach this season and are looking to rebuild welcoming back only five starters from the 2025 season. The Bobcats have a new quarterback as well, Nick Poulos, who started one game in 2024 and redshirted the 2025 season. He is a dual threat quarterback and will look to use his legs to score against a Husker defense who was 98th in rushing defense a year ago. The only returning starter to the Bobcat offense is wide receiver Dom Dorwart who caught 11 passes for 119 yards.
While this is the first match up between Nebraska and Ohio, the two teams have a shared history, Coach Frank Solich. Solich is a coaching legend at both schools. He was an assistant coach under Tom Osborne for 19 seasons from 1979-1997, and was head coach from 1998-2003, winning 58 games and leading Nebraska to the 2001 title game. He then went to Ohio and helped build their football program emassing 115 wins from 2005-2020, making him the winningiest head coach in the Mid-American Conference.
Solich will be at the game on Saturday. He is receiving the Legends Award from the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and will serve as the honorary coin toss captain. It will be great for both teams to be able to honor a coach that means a lot to both programs.
