Nebraska football turned heads to start May 2026 by landing prized quarterback Trae Taylor. Now the four-star and nation’s No. 3 quarterback for 2027 sparked buzz himself: Winning Elite 11 Most Valuable Player honors. He becomes the first to achieve that feat in the era of head coach Matt Rhule.

Taylor began winning Rivals MVP in Day 1 of the event Saturday. But he rose as the overall MVP Sunday which sparked a new debate online: If he’s deserving of a fifth star rating.

The Cornhuskers landed a significant local win by grabbing Taylor. He stars for Millard South High in Omaha, rising to the No. 1 talent in Nebraska.

He reeled in 38 total offers during his College Football Recruiting process. Even Southeastern Conference heavyweights Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, plus defending national champion Indiana offered him.

He drew this compelling comparison from Andrew Ivins of 247Sports: CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans. But he arrived to Millard South after starring in the state of Illinois. He fired off 38 touchdowns compared to three interceptions for Carmel Catholic High before his transfer. He’s also delivered two 3,000-yard seasons in his varsity career. But still, Nebraska won over a prized in-state option.

Now the Elite 11 showing sparks new buzz involving his recruiting period. Any quarterback thriving in Elite 11 creates a new rankings debate, as that QB shows he can shine in front of the nation’s top signal-callers for his class. The annual event pits QBs in a NFL Pro Day like environment featuring various drills not seen in a high school setting.

Taylor earns the chance to make ‘Husker fans forget about a past five-star in Dylan Raiola, who transferred to Oregon.
