New reports say that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are headed to Las Vegas to play in the Las Vegas Bowl. They will face the Utah Utes.  This was reported by On3’s Brett McMurphy earlier this week.

Nebraska has never played in the Las Vegas Bowl. This will be the second year in a row that the program has qualified for a bowl berth. Utah is no stranger to the postseason, having played in a bowl game in four out of the last five years. The Utes went 10-2 this past season.

This matchup should provide some intriguing storylines. Utah averaged 269.8 yards per game on the ground. This could be problematic for a Huskers rushing defense that ranked 100th overall in the country with 180 rushing yards allowed per game.

In any event, this will be one last chance for the current Huskers roster to take the field. This could also be a chance for coach Matt Rhule to record a victory over a ranked team.

The Las Vegas Bowl will be played at Allegiant Stadium on Dec. 31. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
