Nevada High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – Sept. 6

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Nevada high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of September 6.

1. Bishop Gorman (3-1)

The Gaels got back in the win column with a strong performance against a very solid Highland (Utah) Lone Peak squad 38-14. Cal DB commit Kamil Loud had a pair of interceptions and continues to show he’s one of the best corners in the country. He had a great game two weeks ago against St. John Bosco. Gorman has an embarrassment of riches at the running back position and pounded out nearly 240 yards on the ground. Noah Cole, Corey Hinton, and Trey Washington will all play football in college, and all three could headline an offense at just about any school out West. All three rushed for touchdowns and standout linebacker Tamatoa Gaoteote had a 30-yard scoop-and-score in the 1st half that was a huge momentum boost heading into halftime. The Gaels have a bye this weekend before playing at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei on September 18.

2. Liberty (0-2)

The Patriots dropped a tough one to a strong Lehi (Utah ) Skyridge team 24-20. Liberty had some success moving the ball through the air, and quarterback Madden Delacruz had a big game, completing 18-of-26 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Selby Griego caught four passes for 91 yards and a score but it wasn’t enough. Skyridge was up at halftime 21-10 and although the Patriots cut it to a one-possession game in the 3rd, they weren’t quite able to get over the hump. Liberty will play at Desert Oasis on Thursday.

3. Arbor View (0-3)

The Aggies are playing a very tough non-league schedule and took on Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton, ranked No. 3 in the state, on Friday. This one was over early as Hamilton rolled to a 44-0 win. Hamilton had nine sacks in the game and the Aggies had no answers going against a defense that has nine players with D1 offers. For the Aggies, sophomore edge Aisek Brown and sophomore linebacker Michael Gibbs both stood out and showed they are both worth watching closely over the coming years as high upside defenders. The Aggies will try to get in the win column when they host Centennial on Thursday.

4. Foothill (2-1)

The Crusaders lost their first game of the year to Hawaii power Mililani 34-3 in a game that was called in the 3rd quarter for fighting. The Trojans are the top ranked team in Hawaii and were led by one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in the ’28 class, Hunter Fujikawa. Fujikawa completed 17 of 22 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns and the Crusaders’ offense wasn’t able to get it rolling against a very good Trojans defense. Foothill will play at Las Vegas on Friday.

5. Faith Lutheran (2-2)

In one of the best games of the weekend, the Crusaders won a nail-biter over a solid La Verne (Calif.) Damien team 35-31. Damien led 14-0 at the end of the 1st quarter and 31-27 late in the 4th quarter but rallied. The winning touchdown was scored on a trick play when receiver Jacob Dushoff hit Camello Carter for an 80 yard touchdown. Defensive back Treylon Fox had a late interception to seal the win. Junior running back Malakai Boykin rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns and Dominic Aguilar added another 117 yards on the ground. The Crusaders will host Morgan (Utah) on Friday.

6. Churchill County (4-0)

The Greenwave stayed unbeaten with an impressive 47-21 win over Truckee. Sophomore running back Alijah Juarez rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries and wide receiver Calin Anderson had four catches for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Defensive back Maxton Richardson had five tackles and an interception, and linebacker Avery DeAloia finished with a game-high 10 tackles. The Greenwave will host Sparks on Friday.

7. Spanish Springs (1-2)

The Cougars took one on the chin, losing to Idaho power Mountain View 56-7. Spanish Springs’ dynamic offense was held in check to just 126 total yards of offense. Wideout George Deacon Buddy had the lone touchdown on the night and finished with two catches for 40 yards and the score. The Cougars will play another out-of-state opponent on Friday when they host Simi Valley (Calif.).

8. Coronado (2-1)

The Cougars had a bye over the weekend and will take on Desert Springs on Thursday.

9. Palo Verde (3-0)

The Panthers had a bye over the weekend and will host Durango on Thursday.

10. Sloan Canyon (3-0)

Sloan Canyon continued to roll with a dominant 49-7 win over Somerset Academy. The Pirates have an impressive squad and what really stands out is how much young talent is on the roster, especially in the trenches. They have at least 4-5 linemen in the ’29 and ’30 classes who project to the next level. Senior running back Jermaine Wilson continued to flash as well and show he’s among the top un-committed back out West. committed backs
