A big reason the LSU Tigers had to hire Lane Kiffin now, rather than wait until the Ole Miss Rebels finish their season, is that the early signing period begins on December 4. They have to get recruits ready to make the switch now.
Kiffin has secured the first player to follow him from the Rebels to the Tigers on Tuesday afternoon as four-star tight end JC Anderson has flipped his commitment to LSU, per On3's Hayes Fawcett.
The new Tigers head coach said during his press conference that while they haven't been able to speak much to recruits yet due to NCAA rules, he doesn't expect that he will have much issue getting players to get excited about playing at LSU.
Anderson makes the decision first, a couple of days before the signing period begins.
The Illinois native out of Mt. Zion High School is a 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end. 247Sports' composite rankings have him listed as the No. 230 player in the country, No. 11 tight end, and the seventh-best player out of Illinois.
Per MaxPreps, Anderson had 46 catches for 578 yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He also acted as a goal line back, picking up nine carries for 19 yards and a whopping five touchdowns.
He is now the 12th-ranked player in the Tigers' recruiting class, though those rankings could shake up a bit over the next few days. He's the only tight end currently in the class and could be in line for some early playing time at LSU.
