Kalen DeBoer and Alabama have quickly turned their attention toward the 2028 recruiting cycle.
Alabama has already gotten ahead of the curve by receiving commits from several 2028 recruits, and one has already received a prediction from Rivals.
Quarterbacks Charles Scott Jr. and Kingston Preyear are already waving the crimson flag, while linebackers Tysir Young and Dustin Henry have committed, as well as four-star commits Anthony Blaylock and Braylen Gibbs.
Steve Wiltfong of Rivals recently recorded a prediction that linebacker Nehemiah McCary was going to land at Alabama.
McCary, who hails from Maplesville, Ala., is a four-star recruit on most recruiting sites, but is given a five-star ranking on 247Sports’ composite ranking.
And from the sound of it, Alabama was always on McCary’s radar.
“It’s always been my dream school,” he told Rivals. “I always wanted to play for Alabama.”
The Crimson Tide continue to aggressively pursue several of the state's top remaining prospects.
DeBoer and his staff have been relentless in their pursuit for in-state recruits.
Alabama is heavily targeting eight in-state prospects in the 2028 class, and are making significant progress for them.
One of them is EDGE rusher Tyzon Swann, a player that defensive line coach Freddie Roach has prioritized. Swann recently spoke about how enamored he was with the history of the program, and how well his relationships have built with both DeBoer and Roach.
“What excites me is just the history, the hard work and the tradition at Alabama,” Swann said. “Even though it was my first time meeting [Roach] just the excitement in his eyes when he saw me and we spent the whole day just talking about so many things beyond football. And Coach DeBoer himself stood out to me; he's just a great guy overall. I can say so many great things about him all day after my talk with him”
Beyond Swann, a player like Preyear has been making the rounds, attempting to persuade others to come to Tuscaloosa – and he hasn’t let up.
“I’ve got a ton of guys on my radar,” Preyear said after his commitment. “CJ Craig James is a big one. Samuel Bailey and Kaleb Ballard are two more in-state guys I will recruit. Tyler Boyd is from Hoover, so he is another one. There are a lot more. The best in Alabama stay in Alabama, so I’ve got to get those two guys, and then we’ll build around that.”
Alabama currently owns the No. 2-ranked recruiting class in the 2028 cycle, giving the Crimson Tide plenty of momentum as the class continues to take shape.
Even though it’s early, Alabama has the second-ranked class in 2028.
