Alabama coaching legend and ESPN College GameDay panelist Nick Saban thinks college football needs a commissioner. Is he right?

As countless controversies pile up in the college football world, featuring NIL issues, gripes about the annual calendar dates and rampant College Football Playoff follies, Saban argued that the sport needed one voice to guide it through its dealings. He also advocated for a competition committee to dictate how the game is played.

"That's what we don't have right now," Saban said about the lack of consolidated power.

Right now, the NCAA, the various conferences and the College Football Playoff selection committee make a bulk of the decisions. At times, the government intervenes with regulatory rulings. However, college football as a whole does not have a commissioner, perhaps because there are just so many teams and levels to consider.

Would it help? Would it hurt? We're honestly not sure. However, expect the calls for this to increase over time. If someone as influential as Saban is arguing for this, we're imagine others will start arguing for it, too.
