It’s going to be a Big Ten Saturday on Channel 11, with the Nittany Lions desperately looking to get back in the win column in front of a whiteout crowd.
Nittany Lions fans are not used to seeing their team off to a 0-2 start in conference play.
With losses to Wisconsin and Northwestern the last two weeks, they’re hopeful one of their iconic whiteout games will help turn the tide.
“We’re not running from it, and we’re not hiding from it. We have to be better,” first-year head coach Matt Campbell said during a press conference.
Campbell put it bluntly earlier this week, with his team off to a winless start in conference play.
Their next Big Ten opponent, No. 19 USC, comes to town on Saturday.
Quarterback Rocco Becht says preparation this week is all about getting back to basics and consistency.
“We’ve always gotten extra reps after practice, but how many more can we get? Even if it’s like just two or three more, being able to just go that extra inch,” Becht said.
Part of achieving that consistency is finding an identity, which players and coaches alike admit is still a work in progress.
“It’s a growth process,” Campbell said. “The reality of it is we have to be better, and it starts with my leadership of making sure we get better, but I’ve got great belief in the humans that we have, and we’re just not there yet right now.”
Though it’s only early October, it sure feels like the season is on the line for Penn State Saturday night.
A third straight loss would make a trip to the college football playoff significantly more difficult.
Channel 11 is the only place to watch Saturday’s Big Ten matchup between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the USC Trojans. Coverage starts at 7:30 p.m.
