Ohio State has been heating up big time on the recruiting trail. The Buckeyes are predicted to land a major five-star defender on Monday evening to give Matt Patricia’s defense another weapon.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been heating up recently on the recruiting trail with multiple commitments.

Ohio State has 17 commitments in the class of 2027 and that number is soon expected to grow. The summer official visit season has wrapped up and the Buckeyes are now seeing the benefits of those.

The biggest win of the summer to this point for the Buckeyes is expected to come down the pipe on Monday evening.

Ohio State is expected to pick up a five-star win to begin the week

Five-star Sierra Canyon (DL) Marcus Fakatou will announce his college decision on Monday evening and will decide between Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas. Fakatou took his official visit to Ohio State to start June and the Buckeyes are the favorite to earn his commitment.

If you are into predictions or crystal balls, they’re heavily favoring Ohio State to add the five-star defender from California. Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson has built a strong connection with Fakatou, and the veteran leadership of Matt Patricia calling the defense has been a staple in the recruitment.

“His track record speaks for itself,” Fakatou said of Patricia, via Rivals. “I really like him and his coaching style. He’s unique, he’s not a big yeller or screamer, he’s a very devout guy, reads bible verses with the players, and is more of the cerebral kind of coach.

“When he gets mad, and I’ve seen that side, he instructs you without cussing or swearing but will correct you and explain what you did wrong. You actually feel disappointed that you let him down.”

Marcus Fakatou would be a huge addition to an elite defensive line haul for the Buckeyes

Fakatou is the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 24 player in the class of 2027, per 247 Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound defender has potential to play inside or out, though the Buckeyes see him as more of an inside pass rusher right now. Adding Fakatou now and potentially four-star DL Karlos May later in July would be a terrific defensive tackle duo for this class in Columbus.

Ohio State already has No. 1 EDGE DJ Jacobs and high four-star Wyatt Smith committed in the class of 2027 under Johnson. The Buckeyes are building another special recruiting class that’s built in the trenches on both sides of the football. Fakatou would only add to that notion.
