North Caddo names new football coach to replace Chase Thompson

North Caddo principal Jason Laufenberg has tabbed veteran coach Dewaski Davis to take over the Class 2A football program in Vivian.

Davis previously coached at Liberty-Eylau where he was also the school’s athletic director.

“He simply applied. We didn’t know him before the application process,” Laufenberg said of Davis. “But during the interview, the committee was impressed with his ability to turn programs around while stressing both structure and discipline within the program.”

Davis has 30 years in education and has been a head football coach for 19 seasons with playoff teams in 12 of those years.

Dewaski Davis has been named football coach at North Caddo.

“He’s also won four district titles over the course of this career,” Laufenberg said. “While he has helped a number of student athletes play football at the next level, he is most proud of the students he has helped grow into productive citizens.”

Davis, an East Texas A&M graduate, has helped organize athletic departments and reignited pride and high expectations at a variety of schools, Laufenberg said. He replaces Chase Thompson, who was fired in November after a 1-9 season by the Titans. Thompson was 6-24 in three seasons.

“I’m excited,” Davis told the USA Today Network. “I know we have work to do but the opportunity to succeed is what we’ll strive for.”

Davis, who began coaching in 1990, comes to North Caddo from Idabel, Oklahoma.
