Could Oklahoma State‘s next quarterback be in the transfer portal?
North Texas star passer Drew Mestemaker will enter the transfer portal, according to a report from On3.com.
The Cowboys and new coach Eric Morris, Mestemaker’s coach with the Mean Green, will likely be in pursuit and is considered a front-runner, according to the report.
Mestemaker rose to stardom this season as he led the country with 4,129 passing yards in Morris’ offense. Mestemaker was a former-walk on who didn’t even start for his high school varsity team in Austin, Texas.
But he walked on at UNT, played in five games as a freshman, including the bowl game, in 2024. Then, he won the starting job in the fall. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound redshirt freshman completed 70.2% of his passes while throwing 31 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Players cannot officially enter the portal until Jan. 2, 2026.
