Northwestern football shocked the college football world with a blowout win over Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes Saturday night, the final game at their temporary lakefront venue, Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.

Running back Joseph Himon II joined Aidan Chiles among the standout performers on offense, with Himon II terrorizing the Buffaloes' defense en route to an all-time great type of performance.

Himon II, who boasted that he believes Northwestern has the best running backs in the country two weeks ago, showed off his versatility, earning a new nickname that made the rounds on Sunday morning. 

'Swiss Army Knife'

Himon II was dubbed the 'Swiss Army Knife' by Northwestern's official account as he amassed 128 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. 

They didn't come the traditional way for a running back as Himon II did his best Reggie Bush impersonation with 54 kickoff return yards and 46 receiving yards for coach David Braun's Chip Kelly-led offense. 

Himon II is a physical specimen who stays in tip-top condition leading up to each game. He has the multi-dimensional skills that are hard to find among college football running backs and plays for Kelly, an offensive coordinator who knows how to use them as well as anyone else in the country. 

The results have been stellar so far for a Wildcats team looking to take the next step under coach Braun, whose contract was extended to 2031 earlier this week. 

Komolafe, Sawchuk Lead Running Game

Caleb Komolafe, a preseason Maxwell Award candidate, and fellow running back Gavin Sawchuk led Northwestern in rushing on the night, rushing for a combined 97 yards on a combined 23 carries to pace the Wildcats' ground game. 

Both players bring size, toughness and hard-nosed, between-the-tackles running skills that have helped them to excel in Kelly's system. 

Nine players carried the ball for coach Kelly's offense on Saturday, showing that the Wildcats' first-year offensive coordinator is not afraid to throw complex gameplans at opposing teams with each passing week.

Northwestern football has always been known for its academics, and now it has a brilliant offensive coordinator, and a running backs room, to match. The Wildcats' cerebral approach to attacking defenses only figures to get better as the season goes on, although next week's road game against No. 4 Indiana will test it to its limits. 

As this brave new era of college football continues to unfold, Braun's program is looking like a shining example of how to jumpstart a program on a reasonable NIL budget. How high its ceiling goes remains to be seen, but Himon II and the rest of his teammates look ready, willing and able to find out starting next week in Bloomington, Ind.
