If you’re a college football fan, this is great news. Notre Dame and USC have come to an agreement to continue the rivalry from 2030-2033 — although with much different game dates than the two have historically played.

From the ND press release:

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame football program announced today the renewal of “the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football” between Notre Dame and Southern California, with the two programs scheduling a four-game home-and-home series to be played from 2030-2033.

Notre Dame will travel to Los Angeles to take on USC on Aug. 31, 2030, and the Trojans will pay a visit to Notre Dame Stadium on Aug. 30, 2031. The meetings in 2032 and 2033 will each be played in the first three weeks of the season.

In the legendary initial meeting of the rivalry back in 1926, Knute Rockne led his team by train across the country and earned a 13-12 victory. Since that first memorable moment, the two programs have compiled more national championships, Heisman Trophy winners and NFL draft selections than any other rivalry in college football.

The programs have met 96 times, with the Irish holding a 53-38-5 all-time advantage. The Notre Dame – USC matchup is the second-most-played series in Notre Dame program history, trailing only Notre Dame’s series with Navy (98).The Irish are 30-14-1 all-time at home against the Trojans.

Notre Dame is 3-1 against USC under Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Marcus Freeman, having defeated the Trojans by double-digits in the past three meetings. Over the last 10 meetings of the series, Notre Dame is 8-2 against USC.

The teams play for the Jeweled Shillelagh Trophy, a tradition which began in 1952. The Jeweled Shillelagh Trophy is presented by the Notre Dame Club of Los Angeles. Notre Dame victories are marked by green-jeweled shamrocks while USC victories are marked by ruby-jeweled Trojan heads.

Obviously this has been a huge topic over the last year, and I have a lot of different thoughts on all of this — but how do you feel about this decision?
