SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football has agreed to face Auburn in a home-and-home series in 2027-28, the schools announced Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The Tigers, who recently fired coach Hugh Freeze, will visit Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 25, 2027, and play host to the Irish the following season on Oct. 28.
The two former national championship programs have never met before, and the Tigers will become the 13th Southeastern Conference opponent for Notre Dame all-time.
Most recently, the schools battled off the field for highly rated quarterback recruit Deuce Knight, a Lucedale, Miss., product who switched his non-binding commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn ahead of the 2025 signing date.
Notre Dame’s 2027 schedule already featured home games against Purdue, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Navy. The traditional matchup against USC would fall that October in South Bend as well if the schools can salvage a rivalry that’s on the rocks.
The Irish are due to play on the road in 2027 against Michigan State and Clemson with a neutral-site meeting with Wake Forest in Charlotte, N.C.
In 2028, Notre Dame’s road schedule also includes Purdue, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh, as well as a neutral-site meeting with Navy and a potential away game with USC. The Irish home schedule that year features Texas, Arkansas, Boston College, Clemson and Miami.
Notre Dame’s 41-40 home loss to Texas A&M and a 56-13 win at Arkansas left them 4-1 against the SEC under coach Marcus Freeman.
