Notre Dame football is hoping for some good recruiting news this week. Things appear to be trending great for the Fighting Irish.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish appear to be in the driver’s seat for 2027 five-star offensive lineman Albert Simeon out of Lake Charles (La.) Sam Houston, with his commitment decision set for this Friday. The 6-4, 280-pound behemoth will select between Notre Dame, Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, and Nebraska.
For those who have followed this recruitment closely, the Fighting Irish and the Texas A&M Aggies are the two programs that have separated themselves from the pack. Head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive line coach Joe Rudolph did a tremendous job during Simeon’s final official visit to South Bend, and it appears that work is paying off at the right time.
Notre Dame takes the lead after official visit
For the longest time, this recruitment was a pretty even 50-50 split between Notre Dame and Texas A&M. That dynamic shifted after Simeon’s last official visit weekend with the Irish. Freeman, Rudolph, and the rest of the staff made a strong push, and coming out of that visit, it felt like Notre Dame had supplanted the Aggies as the leader.
For anyone who has reported an LSU lean or that the Tigers have been a massive riser over the spring, that information has seemingly come from nowhere. The reality of this recruitment has consistently pointed to Notre Dame and Texas A&M as the two teams to beat.
It appears that some are now buying into the stock of Notre Dame’s ascension here. Rivals national recruiting analysts Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman both logged expert predictions for Simeon to land with the Fighting Irish on Friday. That is a significant indicator heading into the final stretch of this recruitment.
What Simeon would mean for Notre Dame’s offensive line class
If Rudolph and company can close the deal this week, this would end up being one of the more elite offensive line classes that Notre Dame has signed in some time. The Irish already hold commitments from five-star offensive tackle Olu Olubobola, top-100 offensive tackle James Halter, Jackson Hill, and Richie Flanigan. Simeon would have a great argument to be the crown jewel of that group, possessing elite upside to play basically any spot on the offensive line.
With how much Texas A&M has been a thorn in Notre Dame’s side recently on the recruiting trail, specifically with the Kaden Henderson recruitment, landing Simeon would be a massive victory over the Aggies and head coach Mike Elko. Freeman has completely transformed the expectations on the recruiting trail, and being able to potentially land another five-star in the 2027 class would be extremely notable.
Albert Simeon’s recruiting background
Simeon is considered at least a four-star and a top-50 overall player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Simeon ranks as a five-star, the No. 14 overall player, the No. 2 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 2 player from the state of Louisiana for the 2027 recruiting class. This is an elite-level talent, no matter how you slice it.
Just like his recruiting rankings, Simeon’s offer list is also elite. Some of the top programs that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida State, Nebraska, TCU, West Virginia, Arkansas, UNC, Baylor, SMU, and Houston, among others.
Notre Dame will have to close the deal down the stretch, but you love the direction things seem to be falling for the Fighting Irish right now. Friday cannot come soon enough.
