It very much seemed like the James Franklin rivalry with Notre Dame was ending, but on Monday another chapter was added.
The new head coach at Virginia Tech flipped former Irish 2027 linebacker commit Amarri Irvin, as the 6-foot and 200-pounder opted to verbal to the only program who got an official visit from him. The nation’s No. 286 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite might have seen the writing on the wall.
Recently Notre Dame became the leader for 5-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, and on Monday also received a prediction to land Roman Igwebuike. Both of those two players are ranked higher than Irvin, and it would have been tough for him to see the field early competing with those two if the projections are correct.
Anytime you lose a commit it stings, but the fact that the Irish have two prospects who a viewed in better light helps the situation.
