Notre Dame Football Midweek Rundown
NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...
It is time for the Notre Dame Football midweek rundown here at Irish Breakdown and we covered a bunch of different topics on this Wednesday's show. Last week, there was a list that came out from Josh Pate where he had Notre Dame as the No. 1 'hated team' in college football. We dive into why that is and where we stand on that opinion. We also talked about who we believe will be the stars on this year's offense.
Like any national title-contending team, you need a level of star power. For the last two seasons on offense for the Irish, that was running back Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. With both of them headed off to the NFL, who takes their place? Bryan and I also break down the 2027 defensive line recruiting names to know as well as a topic concerning TV rights that will affect the landscape of college football. You can watch all of that, and more, on today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's show:
On CJ Carr Being An Offensive Star…
"Every team that has won a national title over the last several years had at least one offensive star in the lineup. This past season, Indiana had the Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. In 2024, Ohio State had TreVeyon Henderson, Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka. In 2023, Michigan had Blake Corum, JJ McCarthy and Colston Loveland. This season, CJ had the opportunity to be that for the Notre Dame offense, especially now that guys like Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price are gone. All eyes will be on No. 13 this fall."
On Why Notre Dame Is Hated…
"Let's be real about something, Notre Dame is nationally hated because they're good again. Back in 2016, they weren't receiving a lot of national hatred because they were 4-8. A lot of what it boils down to now is jealousy. They have the ability to be independent and negotiate their own TV contract and play in the College Football Playoffs. If Notre Dame would have opted out of the Pop-Tarts Bowl but went 8-4 this season, it wouldn't have mattered. They took away content for people who would have made that game more than what it was. That's a big part of it as well."
On Guerby Lambert Being An Offensive Star…
"If I had to name anyone on the offensive side of the ball not named CJ Carr to be a star on this year's offense, it would be Guerby Lambert. He was good for a redshirt freshman in his first season as a starter. Now, he's going to break out into a player that's just a great offensive lineman. He's 6-7, 330-pounds and has the highest upside of anyone in the projected starting lineup. This will be the year that Guerby breaks out on the national stage."
