The preparation for Notre Dame football has come to an end, it’s now time to move onto a game week as the first contest of the year will happen next weekend.

The Irish will travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and will take on the Wisconsin Badgers in historic Lambeau Field. While there are still more than a few position battles that have yet to be settled, what we do now know is who will be the captains for Notre Dame this season. On Friday, it was announced who had been selected.

It was surely a mix of players and coaches making the decision, as most likely there was some difficult decisions that were made. It’s a huge honor to be named an Irish captain, find out below which four players earned the recognition.

Linebacker Drayk Bowen

The first of two players who have gotten the nod twice, Bowen is clearly one of the biggest leaders on the defensive side of the ball. It’s pretty clear on the field, and it surely is in the locker room. While Bowen doesn’t have a filled trophy cabinet, he’ll still be remember as a Notre Dame great.

Quarterback CJ Carr

The second-year starter is now a first-time captain, as the redshirt sophomore enters the season with massive expectations. Carr is viewed as one of the best NFL prospects at his position, and could go in the first round if he opts to leave early. If he’s stays, there is potential that he could leave a lasting legacy.

Wide receiver Jordan Faison

The former walk-on and lacrosse player is now a football team captain. It’s hard to fathom that Faison ever dreamed that this would be the case, but hard work and dedication have made all of this possible for him. Expect a big season from him, as now he’s got the added confidence of a captain.

Safety Adon Shuler

Both defensive players are two-time captains, as Shuler elevated his game last fall. Notre Dame has an extremely strong recent tradition as the position, with Kyle Hamilton and Xavier Watts being multi-year starters and award winners. Shuler has a chance to put his name next to his peers, but now has an advantage over both of them when it comes to leadership.
