While it doesn’t sound overly exciting to some, Notre Dame football is set to host rival Navy Midshipmen on Saturday night, which will end up being a very important game for the Fighting Irish. It is also going to be a very important recruiting weekend for head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff. While it won’t compare to the ones we saw for Texas A&M and USC, there are several key targets set to make the trip to South Bend.
While the 2027 recruiting class will be the main topic of conversation for Notre Dame, there will be one very interesting 2026 target on campus as well. Several highly rated 2028 recruits will also be making the trip. Here are all the key targets for Notre Dame that fans should know and learn a lot more about this weekend. The list does not include the many commits expected back on campus.
Offensive recruits to know
Here are the top offensive targets expected on campus this weekend for Notre Dame.
RB Rayshawn Duncan Jr. – Bedford (Ohio) High School
WR Tyler Fryman – Fort Mitchell (Ky.) Beechwood
WR Rob Larson – Folsom (Calif.) High School
WR Carter Bonner – Pittsburgh (Pa.) Penn Hills
WR Tre Littlejohn – Pittsburgh (Pa.) Penn Hills
TE Titus Hawk – Choctaw (Okla.) High School
OT Layton von Brandt – Middleton (Del.) Appoquinimink
IOL King Pitts (2028) – Santa Rosa (Calif.) Cardinal Newman
As far as top targets are concerned, Notre Dame should keep a very close eye on von Brant. Considered a five-star player by some in the 2027 recruiting class, he was initially committed to Penn State. The 6-6, 275-pound offensive tackle opted to open his recruitment up again once head coach James Franklin was fired a few weeks ago. Things have been trending extremely well for the Fighting Irish. A big visit could push this one over the top.
Hawk and Fryman each also hold offers from Notre Dame in the 2027 class. Things are in a good place with Hawk, who is one of the more physically gifted tight ends in the class. It is a loaded tight end board for the Irish in 2027, so there will be a question about who ends up committing first. Fryman is currently committed to Louisville for baseball, but Notre Dame continues to push.
The sleeper of the group is Larson. He does not hold an offer from the Irish yet, but he camped in South Bend this past offseason and wowed everyone at attendance for the Irish Invasion. The 6-1, 190-pound pass catcher has been receiving a lot more recruiting attention since the season began. It will be interesting to see if an offer comes from Notre Dame soon.
Defensive recruits to know
Here are the top defensive targets expected on campus this weekend for Notre Dame.
EDGE Jayden Bell (2028) – Bloomfield (Mich.) Brother Rice
LB Kaden Henderson – Tampa Bay (Fla.) Jesuit
LB Garyon Hobbs – Louisville (Ky.) Atherton
CB Xavier Hasan – Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons
CB Kamauri Whitfield – Orlando (Fla.) The First Academy
CB Jaden Irons (2028) – St. Cloud (Fla.) High School
CB Kinnard Mahomes (2028) – Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph
S Matt Sieg (2026) – McDonald (Pa.) Fort Cherry
The lone 2026 recruit on campus is Sieg, who is still committed to Penn State, but is seeing what his options are out there. Notre Dame is expected to be a big player for the 6-0, 190-pound defensive playmaker, a versatile athlete who does a little bit of everything for Fort Cherry. Even though the Irish have a loaded secondary class, it feels like Sieg might just be too good to say no to if he wants to come.
Outside of Sieg, the most important recruit on campus will be Hasan, one of the best cornerbacks in the 2027 class. Notre Dame is in a very good spot, and they hope to continue its strong presence in the state of North Carolina. This type of visit could be one that puts them over the top.
Perhaps the most interesting visitor to watch is Whitfield, who is currently committed to the Tennessee Volunteers in the 2027 class. The 5-10, 185-pound cover man has continued to keep his options open, and there appears to be real interest in the Fighting Irish. They haven’t offered Whitfield yet, but don’t be surprised if that comes this weekend with a great visit.
