Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman hints towards NFL future

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have won double-digit games for three straight seasons and are projected as one of the top contenders in college football next year, and so it can’t come as much of a surprise that their head coach Marcus Freeman continues to get so much interest in the world of football.
Despite having turned down an invite to a bowl game this past season, the Notre Dame head coach received interest from several NFL teams this past offseason including the Giants, whom eventually hired John Harbaugh. Notre Dame responded quickly and aggressively and improved the terms of Freeman’s deal with the school and a partnership was confirmed for at the very least the near future.
But for the long term? That’s still to be decided.
On Thursday, coach Freeman was a guest on “Good Morning Football” and he was asked about the potential of him coaching at the highest level some day.
“Never say never,” was Freeman’s response. “Maybe I daydream every once in a while, where I think about it. When there was some interest this year, I said it in my press conference; it gave me the opportunity to gain knowledge on what being a head coach in the NFL truly entails.” Before Irish fans panic, Freeman confirmed his commitment to the university saying “We’ll see what the future holds, but in this moment, in the near future, I am as convicted as I can be, being the head coach of this place.”

There does not seem to be any reason to doubt the words of their head coach. Marcus has never been shy about declaring his love for the university. And it’s hard not to understand why someone could envision themselves some day wanting to challenge themselves at the highest level.
If it provides any solace to Irish fans, that NFL opportunity will have come after more successful seasons in South Bend.
