Notre Dame football is pushing hard for a five-star wide receiver. It would be a monumental victory for the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame wide receiver recruiting has been a bit of a wild ride over the last couple of years. After a very slow start to the 2026 recruiting class, wide receivers coach Mike Brown eventually put together a really nice class. Head coach Marcus Freeman, Brown, and Co. are hoping to keep that momentum moving forward.
While there are some concerns about the 2027 wide receiver class, Notre Dame is positioning itself in a great spot early with elite 2028 Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton pass catcher Lorenzo McMullen Jr., who is considered to be one of the best overall players in the class. This is a five-star talent.
In a recruiting update from Rivals national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong, he wrote about McMullen and the latest in his recruitment. The Irish are clearly in a great spot early on. If Notre Dame were able to steal a talented pass catcher out of the Buckeye State, it would be a monumental victory.
Here is what Wiltfong wrote.
4-star WR Lorenzo McMullen Jr.
The Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton standout had a great visit to Notre Dame in April and the Irish are strong contenders. Others catching his eye include “Penn State, Oregon, Maryland, Nebraska and LSU.”
McMullen has set a visit to Oregon for June 17.
Lorenzo McMullen Jr.’s recruiting background
McMullen is considered to be at least a four-star and top-100 overall player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, McMullen currently sits as a five-star, the No. 26 overall player, the No. 7 wide receiver, and the No. 1 player from the state of Ohio for the 2028 recruiting class. Rivals has him rated highest currently, pegged as the No. 11 player in the class.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that a long list of impressive programs has been pursuing McMullen early on. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Florida, Miami, Auburn, Indiana, Nebraska, Louisville, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Pitt, UNC, Wisconsin, Maryland, Cincinnati, and Purdue, among several others.
McMullen is coming off an outstanding season for Princeton as a sophomore in 2025. The 6-1, 170-pound wide receiver managed to haul in 41 receptions for 737 yards and 20 touchdowns. That is an average of nearly 18 yards per reception, showcasing the playmaking upside and big-play ability that McMullen brings to the table.
