Notre Dame lands 5-star edge Darieon Prescott

While the significant football recruiting focus is on the 2027 class, Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Notre Dame coaching staff aren't afraid to look ahead to the 2028 cycle.
The Fighting Irish proved that on Monday, July 27, with a commitment from one of the cycle's top defensive prospects.
Bolingbrook (IL) five-star edge Darieon Prescott kept the momentum rolling for Notre Dame with his pledge to the Fighting Irish. Prescott chose Notre Dame over Texas A&M and Oregon.
His decision comes after visiting all three schools in June.
247Sports ranks the 6-foot-6, 220-pounder as the No. 7 overall prospect, the No. 3 edge and No. 2 player in Illinois for the 2028 cycle. The USA TODAY Sports composite rankings lists Prescott as the No. 18 player in the 2028 cycle.
Prescott broke onto the national scene last year following a standout sophomore season. He led the Raiders defense with 65 tackles, 26 quarterback pressures, 14 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, five sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two blocked kicks.
Fighting Irish continue to build a monster on the defensive line
While Prescott is only Notre Dame's third commitment in the 2028 class, he is their latest massive recruiting win on the defensive line front.
According to 247Sports, Prescott is Notre Dame's sixth defensive line commitment ranked as a four-star or better.
That list of commitments includes Downingtown East (PA) five-star edge Abraham Sesay, St. Patrick (IL) four-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho, Don Bosco Prep (NJ) Aidan O'Neil, Bergen Catholic (NJ) four-star edge Jackson Vaughn and Brother Rice (IL) four-star defensive lineman Brayden Parks.
He isn't on the line but Notre Dame also recently landed another commitment from one of the best linebacker prospects in Illinois in Mount Carmel (Chicago) standout Roman Igwebuike.
