Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have landed another top target in the transfer portal. Former Pittsburgh defensive lineman Francis Brewu committed to them on Tuesday, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett.
Brewu had an excellent sophomore season for the Panthers and was one of the top players in the portal. He finished the year with 36 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, and one forced fumble. The Westerville, Ohio, native received Honorable Mention All-ACC honors after his breakout performance.
He is ranked as the No. 50 overall player and No. 6 defensive lineman in the transfer portal by 247Sports. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Brewu signed with the Panthers as a three-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting cycle and immediately cracked their defensive line rotation. He played in 12 games and made one start as a true freshman, recording six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks en route to making the Pro Football Focus All-Freshman Team.
Brewu is the sixth transfer that Notre Dame has landed, four of whom are rated as four-star prospects. The group is ranked as the No. 17 class in the country, but their average player rating of 93.0 is the best in the nation.
