The Notre Dame football program secured a massive recruiting victory on Friday when they received the commitment of elite four-star quarterback Wonderful “Champ” Monds. Monds officially pledged his commitment to the Irish over Ohio State and Florida State.
The standout passer out of Vero Beach, Florida, announced his decision live on the Pat McAfee Show, bringing an end to a high-profile recruitment. Having it on such a widely viewed show like that, can strengthen the profile of the program as well.
The 6-foot, 2-inch and 220-pound quarterback had reclassified from the 2028 class to 2027 last winter. The Irish made him a priority when Teddy Jarrard moved his timeline to the 2026 class. According to the 247Sports Composite, Monds is ranked as the No. 20 quarterback, and overall the No. 264 recruit in his class.
The decision comes on the heels of an apparently successful unofficial visit to South Bend on April 18. It was after that visit that many experts started projecting crystal balls in Notre Dame’s favor.
The commitment marks yet another monumental win for head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff. Earlier on Friday they were able to secure the commitment of priority four-star edge Aidan O’Neil as well.
With the Monds’ recruitment finalized, the Irish have landed their quarterback target for the 2027 class and can continue to their pursuit of high-end talents at other positions.
