Notre Dame is still trying to fill out its 2027 offensive line class, and a new target is now on the board as the Irish recently offered Saline, Mich./Saline standout Louis Esposito. A Michigan commit, Esposito visited campus this past weekend and he got a chance to learn a lot about the Notre Dame program.
Esposito, who attends the same high school Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr graduated from, was definitely surprised by the offer when he sat down with offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.
“I basically met with Coach Rudolph and he was basically telling me, ‘We love your film, you play with elite athleticism,’ stuff like that,” Esposito said. “He said we are going to offer you at Notre Dame. I just felt blessed to be even considered, to be able to go on a visit like that, let alone receiving an offer from them.”
Esposito has fond memories of Notre Dame, especially from his childhood, attending games with his uncle. Still, last weekend’s official visit gave him a new appreciation and perspective, especially since he had only previously been around the football stadium and not the campus at large.
“For me, it was really their campus, the level that they play football at,” Esposito noted. “Notre Dame is one of those blue blood schools. Places like the Grotto and Basilica, so powerful and breathtaking. Nobody else has that.”
Connecting with Rudolph – and head coach Marcus Freeman – on the visit was a high priority for Esposito. Getting to hear the veteran offensive line coach’s perspective on his game and potential was a huge moment.
“I mean, obviously when you think of Notre Dame, they are considered one of those O-Line-U schools,” Esposito said. “Anyone who plays at those schools is a good offensive lineman. Coach Rudolph really helps players there excel and perfect their craft.
“I have a good relationship with Coach Rudolph,” he added. “Coach Freeman talked with my family a little bit as well. Me and Coach Rudolph have the best relationship. They’re all really down to earth, normal people, which I like. They were really open with me and my family.”
Freeman’s desire to build a personal connection with Esposito and his family was another critical upshot in Notre Dame’s favor as Penn State, Iowa, and USC are also vying for his services.
“I think he’s done a great job,” he said of Freeman. “Just getting the chance to talk with him, he definitely has a good vision and I think they are going to win football games in the future. The biggest thing, really, him and my dad and us talked about was how it’s been as a coach, getting the chance to come (and coach at) other places. Kind of what he had in mind for me, he said the same thing as Coach Rudolph: I had elite athleticism, my film was great, basically he wants me at Notre Dame.”
Notre Dame would like to add two more offensive linemen in the 2027 class to go with current commits James Halter and Richie Flanigan. Esposito is now one of several talented prospects that could fill those final spots.
