Notre Dame football has been looking for a transfer defensive lineman, and has brought in more than a few for visits, two of them opting to commit to other programs on Thursday.
First it was defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam, who made the move from Penn State to Tennessee according to Hayes Fawcett. With the head coaching change for the Nittany Lions, the transfer will reunite with his defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, who is now with the Volunteers.
Just a few minutes after Gilliam made his announcement public, Utah defensive lineman John Henry Daley committed to Michigan. His head coach with the Utes, Kyle Whittingham recently took over the same position with the Wolverines.
It’s hard to be angry as their choices, as familiarity played a big factor in each of their recruitments. However, Notre Dame should be disappointed that they couldn’t close following their visits, considering how much success they’ve had in the recent past with having prospects on campus.
The Irish’s board to add a defensive tackle has shrunk by two, but more players have continued to enter the portal, so there is still plenty of time to address the position.
