You can’t win them all in recruiting, and on Monday Notre Dame football found out that is still the case.

The Irish were one of four finalists for Illinois offensive tackle Cameron Wagner, a 6-foot, 6-inch and 300-pound mauler for Illinois. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, the nation’s No. 345 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite committed to the Oregon Ducks on Monday.

This could potentially be a sign that Wagner opted to go somewhere else, as 5-star tackle Olu Olubobola will make his commitment later today and the Irish are viewed as the current favorite. Notre Dame also currently has James Halter as a tackle commitment in its 2027 class, each of them ranked higher than Wagner.

While this is a loss for the Irish, it shouldn’t be viewed as a big one, considering the potential of adding an elite tackle in Olubobla.
