It has not been the best transfer portal window for Notre Dame, and on Monday the bad news kept rolling in.
The Irish saw a couple of its top targets make decisions that didn’t involved playing in South Bend. First it was USF defensive tackle Horace Lockett. He was set to visit Notre Dame, but that won’t happen anymore as he’s withdrawn his name from the portal according to Pete Nakos. There was a recently coaching change, but the new staff convinced him to stay.
To pile on to the bad news of Lockett was Rutgers wide receiver Ian Strong. The graduate transfer also had a Notre Dame visit on the schedule, but on Monday night decided to commit to Cal according to Matt Zenitz. This is a big loss for the Irish, as they now have missed on their top two wide receiver transfer targets after Nick Marsh committed to Indiana over the weekend.
All is not lost for Notre Dame, even though they haven’t seen the results they’d like, without a current transfer commitment. The coaching staff led by Marcus Freeman will make adjustments and find the right fits, we are just going to have to be patient with the results.
Cal has signed former Rutgers standout wide receiver Ian Strong, @chris_hummer and I have learned.
Big win for Tosh Lupoi. The 6-3, 210-pound Strong, who’s ranked as a four-star transfer, posted totals of 95 catches, 1,438 yards and 10 touchdowns the last two seasons. pic.twitter.com/pwudIgsB40
