Notre Dame Offers Scholarship to No. 1 2028 Recruit Amid Intense Competition

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and head coach Marcus Freeman made an expected move Friday, extending a scholarship offer to the nation’s No. 1 player in the 2028 high school class.

Notre Dame is the latest program — among 30-plus others who have already extended offers — to join the race to land wide receiver Brysen Wright, in a push led by Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound wideout made the announcement himself on X, publicly revealing the new offer on his social media account.

“ALL GLORY TO GOD!!! Blessed to receive another D1 offer from Notre Dame #LLT #LLJ,” Wright posted, listing a few industry personalities.

While there are no current visit dates set for Notre Dame or any other school, for that matter, the Fighting Irish are now firmly in the mix as Wright begins to narrow his focus heading into the fall.

Wright’s dominance on the national circuit has drawn attention from nearly every major program in the country, with 247Sports listing Florida, Miami and Ohio State as “warm” in terms of interest.

According to 247Sports Composite, Wright is the No. 1 player in the 2028 recruiting class. On3 has him ranked as the No. 2 player nationally, and 247Sports’ own rank has him fourth overall.

The wide receiver has already drawn praise from scouting directors at both Rivals and 247Sports for his physical maturity, vertical speed and ability to win contested catches.

Wright’s scholarship offers include top programs from the SEC, Big Ten and ACC, all pursuing him heavily. That said, Wright’s camp has consistently emphasized player development and track record over NIL incentives as key factors in his future decision.

His father, Colby Wright, told Rivals that the priority is finding a place with a strong culture and proven results at wide receiver.

“Honestly, for us NIL is not a (major) topic,” Colby said. “It will be discussed and taken care of. He can focus on relationships, player development, that good winning culture he’s used to. Proof of concept is huge. Going to a place that has a track record of producing wide receivers and has an offensive style he sees himself playing in. A place that has great DBs to work against in practice. You want to be challenged every day.”

The standout freshman posted 31 catches for 646 yards and eight touchdowns last fall at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Wright will enter his sophomore season as one of the most highly recruited prospects in the country and with Notre Dame following him closely.
