One of the perks for Notre Dame football not being in a conference is that they can schedule whoever they want, and another marquee team has been added to the 2026 and 2027 slate.

On Monday morning the Irish announced that they’ll start a home-and-home series with BYU, who they could have potentially faced during bowl season had Notre Dame not opted out. It’s going to be a big game, as both teams this fall were competing for a College Football Playoff spot, only to be left out of the dance.

The first game of this series will be played in Provo, Utah next year, and it will concluded with the Cougars coming to South Bend in 2027. Notre Dame has now added another big name it its schedule, as they’re set to face Wisconsin in Lambeau Field, traveling to North Carolina, and hosting Miami.

There is some bad news to think about this announcement, as it could be the end of the scheduled series with USC. Next year’s game is an option, and with the addition of BYU, there should be some doubt cast that this game will get played.

Notre Dame has faced off against BYU nine times, two of those games were vacated, with the last game was an Irish win in Las Vegas during the 2022 season. The Cougars haven’t beaten the Irish in its last four tries, their last win being in 2004.
