Notre Dame star LB questionable, WR ruled out vs. Badgers

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish provided an updated injury report for their Week 1 matchup against the Wisconsin Badgers, and there’s one key injury: linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa.

Viliamu-Asa is recovering from an ACL injury, and his recovery has been as good/better than expected heading into the regular season, with the linebacker potentially being available in Week 1 against the Badgers. It’s unclear if Notre Dame will ultimately clear him to play, but he could be a game-changer if he suits up.

A projected first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, Viliamu-Asa is set to be one of the leaders of an elite Notre Dame defense, which is why the Irish could also choose to hold him out to get him fully ready for Week 2.

He’s the only questionable player on Notre Dame’s injury report. The Fighting Irish ruled out a handful of other players: wide receiver Quincy Porter, offensive lineman Matty Augustine, defensive lineman Christopher Burgess Jr., defensive lineman Tiki Hola, offensive lineman Charles Jagusah, linebacker Ko’o Kia, defensive back Chaz Smith, and offensive lineman Chris Terek.

Of the players out, Porter, Augustine, and Jagusah are the most notable. Porter was a top transfer from Ohio State this offseason as one of the more high-potential available players, but he is working his way back from a patellar tendon injury.

Notre Dame listed Guerby Lambert as their starting right tackle, while Sullivan Absher and Styles Prescod are listed as co-starters at right guard.
