Notre Dame, USC to resume football rivalry series in 2030

The Notre Dame and USC college football rivalry is set to be back on in just a few years.
USC announced on Monday, Aug. 3, that it reached an agreement with Notre Dame to resume the series, starting in 2030. The 2030 matchup will take place during Week 1 inside the LA Coliseum in Southern California.
The 2031 matchup will also take place during Week 1, but it will be in South Bend, Ind. The other two matchups will take place between Weeks 1-3 in 2032 and 2033.

Per On3’s Pete Nakos, Notre Dame had to cancel its home-and-home series against Indiana scheduled for 2030 and 2031 in order to renew the rivalry with USC.
The Notre Dame-USC matchup is one of the top rivalries in college football and has been played 96 times. Notre Dame leads the all-time head-to-head with a 53-38-5 record.
The two teams last played in 2025, with Notre Dame winning 34-24. In fact, Notre Dame has won three of the last four and seven of the last eight against USC.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley is super excited about the rivalry being back.
“We felt like the best thing for our program was to play this game early in the season,” Riley said. “We’re a part of a conference, we have a conference schedule to answer to. We don’t make our own schedule.”
It’s going to be great seeing these two teams play for the Shillelagh Trophy again.
