The Ohio high school football playoffs have reached the state semifinals, and The Dispatch will be covering the three central Ohio teams that are one win from playing for a championship.

Our coverage Nov. 28 features Big Walnut-Cincinnati Anderson, Olentangy Orange-Lakewood St. Edward and Watterson-Tipp City Tippecanoe. We’ll have updates throughout the games in this live blog.

OHSAA scores, updates from fifth round of Ohio high school football playoffs

Unbeaten Orange may be in its first state semifinal, facing St. Edward at Arlin Field in Mansfield, but that doesn’t mean the Pioneers have no experience in games of this magnitude.

Senior quarterback Levi Davis and senior defensive back Treyton Schroeder are more than star players for the Pioneers. They helped Orange’s boys basketball team win its first state championship last winter.

That big-game experience will be beneficial against a St. Edward team playing in its fifth consecutive Division I state semifinal.

St. Edward will try to stop the duo of Davis and senior running back Lucas Fickel. No opponent has done that so far. Davis has 2,016 yards passing and 939 rushing, and Fickel has rushed for 1,839 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Davis was named an Ohio Mr. Football finalist on Nov. 26.

Big Walnut takes on undefeated Anderson at Historic Crew Stadium, looking to avenge a 28-24 loss to the Raptors in a 2024 Division II state semifinal.

The Golden Eagles haven’t lost since Week 1 against Watterson. Expect a steady diet of junior running back Nolan Buirley, who has rushed for 2,231 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Big Walnut’s defense has to deal with a spread offense directed by junior Owen Scalf, who has passed for 4,288 yards and 37 touchdowns.

In Division III, defending state champion Watterson puts its undefeated season on the line against unbeaten Tipp City Tippecanoe at Mason.

Watterson has outscored its opponents 566-80. Tippecanoe has a 535-85 advantage, including scoring 26 unanswered points in the fourth quarter of a 33-16 win over London last week in the Region 12 final.

For Watterson senior quarterback Drew Bellisari, he’ll take the field two days after announcing his commitment to Miami University. The Eagles have won 28 games in a row, all of which have been started by Bellisari.

Tippecanoe will face a Watterson defense that features junior tackle Michael Boyle, a two-time wrestling state champion who has committed to compete in that sport at Ohio State.
