Ohio high school football powerhouse wins game day after theft accusations

A day after more than a dozen of its football players were accused of stealing from a Dick's Sporting Goods in Columbus, OH, Glenville High School (Cleveland, OH) took down Oletangy Liberty (Powell, OH) 34-14 to get its first win of the season.

Staff members at the sporting goods chain called the police around 7:25 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, to accuse 15-20 teenagers they believed to be Glenville football players of stealing a little over $4,500 in merchandise, according to local outlet 10 WNBS. Glenville was staying in a nearby hotel ahead of Friday night's game, and "some of" the merchandise was returned, the outlet reported, though it was not clear how much. Glenville coaches cooperated with police.

Identities of the players accused have not been released as of Friday night.

Despite the situation surrounding the team, Glenville dominated on the field.

The reigning Ohio High School Athletic Association Div. IV state champions didn't allow a point across the first three quarters, sprinting to a 27-0 start before taking its foot off the pedal. Quarterback LaMarques Greenwood rushed for four touchdowns on runs of 2, 29, 5 and 3 yards, according to Cleveland.com, guiding the offense to an unsurmountable lead as the defense took care of business.

Junior quarterback Elvis Koutsakis subbed in late, and completed a 46-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Garry Pritchett in the fourth quarter.

Glenville is now 1-1 on the season.
