Ohio State Announces Julian Sayin News Before College Football Playoff

The No. 2 seed Ohio State Buckeyes lost for the first time all season in a 13-10 loss to the No. 1 seed Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Conference title game.

Indiana now is undefeated and has the top seed in the 12-team College Football Playoff, but Ohio State is No. 2 and still earned a first-round bye.

Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin is in his first year as the starter after Will Howard led them to a national title win before going to the NFL.

Sayin had thrown for 3,323 yards with 31 touchdowns and six interceptions, and he had played very well.

He is from Carlsbad, California, and beat out true freshman Tavien St. Clair and redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz for the Buckeyes QB1 job.

Sayin’s name was in the Heisman Trophy conversation for much of the year.

On Monday, the official Heisman Trophy finalists were announced, and he was one of them.

The rest of the finalists were Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jeremiyah Love, Indiana Hoosiers QB Fernando Mendoza and Vanderbilt Commodores QB Diego Pavia.

Some of the preseason favorites includedTexas Longhorns QB Arch Manning, LSU Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier and Clemson Tigers QB Cade Klubnik, but none of them were named finalists this time.

The winner will be revealed on the Heisman Trophy Ceremony on Saturday, December 13, at 7 pm ET. It will be aired on ESPN.

This marks the seventh straight year that there are four finalists for the award.
