As the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day continue to navigate their way through the 2027 recruiting class, the prolific program is showing no signs of slowly down heading into the dog days of the summer.
Last week, Day was able to secure two commitments from four-star offensive tackle Caden Moss and three-star wide receiver Jordan Donahoo. However, the Buckeyes managed to close out the month of June on a high note with another top target announcing his commitment to the program.
According to Letterman Row’s Spencer Holbrook on Monday afternoon, 2027 four-star defensive end Marcus Fakatou has committed to the Buckeyes over the likes of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Oregon Ducks.

What’s Next For Day, Ohio State in 2027 Class?
Fakatou, a talented pass rusher in the upcoming recruiting cycle, was able to gain the attention of many powerhouse programs throughout his time at the high school level. Currently, the most recent Buckeye commit is the No. 2-ranked defensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting class, as well as the No. 3-ranked prospect in the state of California, per 247Sports’ Composite.
Prior to transferring to Sierra Canyon High School, Fakatou quickly jumped on the radars of many top colleges in his first two high school seasons. In his first two seasons at Orange Lutheran High School, the highly-touted defensive end recorded a total of 97 tackles, 27 tackles for losses, and 12 sacks in 22 games.
Standing at 6-foot-6, 275 lbs., Fakatou already possesses a terrific frame that should translate to the college level upon his arrival in Columbus. Day and defensive lines coach Larry Johnson began their efforts for the California native back in 2025, and after taking an official visit to Ohio State in May, the Buckeyes were luckily able to land Fakatou to its impressive 2027 class before the month of July.
Now, with Fakatou set to join Ohio State’s upcoming recruiting class, Day and his coaching staff have once again assembled an elite high school class for the 2027 cycle.
The commitment of the stout defensive end now gives the Buckeyes a scary pass-rush duo of Fakatou and five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs, with both prospects being consensus top-five defensive ends in the 2027 class.
