Ohio State has a lot going for their program when it comes to recruiting, but none may be stronger right now than the NFL success they are seeing with several of their former Buckeyes.
Former stars like Denzel Ward and Chris Olave inked deals that do nothing more than further prove the “Developed Here” sentiment this coaching staff has lived by the last several years. Now laying claim to the highest paid cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL, the Buckeyes adding Olave’s new totals on Thursday has to keep impressionable young recruits glued to what is brewing in Columbus.
Insiders giving credit to the Ohio State football factory as well, Ryan Day said it best this week at Big Ten Media Days when he stated, “It’s a great time to be a Buckeye”.
Ohio State standing out for class of 2028 athlete with familiar lineage
Ohio State is appealing to many top national targets for far more than the reasons already mentioned. One of the top programs in the country each year, it’s no surprise to see the Buckeyes attracting top players, and that will be the same story in the 2028 class.
Even with just three commits locked in so far, Ohio State looks poised to bring in another top class and new names are showing why.
Looking at a familiar name from a previous era, Ohio State is sticking out for Arizona native Legarrette Blount Jr. A 6-foot-1, 175 pound receiver prospect, Blount Jr. is the No. 611 player nationally and the 51st best at his position per the 247Sports Composite.
Impressive lineage within his family ties, it makes sense that the other program atop of his mindset right now is Oregon. Double-digit offers to his name thus far, Ohio State has no shortage of top receiver targets keeping them atop of their list, and with at least three likely to sign in 2028 that’s exactly the scenario you want.

Buckeyes leading the way for multiple recruits with latest expert predictions
Another position clicking when it comes to recruiting success is offensive line, thanks to Tyler Bowen’s chops on the trail. An elite haul of talent in 2027, the 2028 class is quickly becoming the priority thanks to five commits already in the fold for the current cycle.
Quality and quantity the goal, shifting to the future will keep that the case and so far momentum is trending in their direction once again.
Multiple expert predictions coming by way of Allen Trieu on Thursday, the On3 analyst pegged both Kavon Blackmon and John Paul Carrico to the Buckeyes with their eventual commitments. Two highly-touted targets, the pair are four-star offensive tackles with quite the impressive offer lists.
Blackmon and in-state native, the Springfield, Ohio product is the No. 132 player nationally and 16th best tackle per the 247Sports Composite.
At 6-foot-6, 275 pounds, Kavon’s 20-plus offers show the caliber of athlete he is and being just over an hour from Columbus certainly doesn’t hurt Ohio State’s chances and ability to stay in close contact. Right now, it looks like he feels the same.
Looking at Carrico, the 6-foot-8, 295 pound Kentucky native is another massive target Ohio State would love to add to their class. The No. 189 player nationally and 22nd best tackle per the 247Sports Composite, the fortunate theme right now is the Buckeyes having momentum.
What would be two bookend tackles in the class, Ohio State will keep at work with both of these prospects until the deals are done. Plenty of time to go, this is where you’d want Bowen and the Buckeyes to be to this point.

Ohio State’s top-ranked player in the 2027 class is DJ Jacobs, and while programs like Miami and Tennessee continue trying, Jacobs is still committed and saying the right things. With that, the Buckeyes hope to also impress his younger brother, Dawson Jacobs, and they are emerging as one of his top schools.
A 6-foot-3, 240 pound defensive lineman, Dawson is the No. 176 player nationally and 21st best lineman per the 247Sports Composite. Nearly 30 offers to his name already, it’s Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Tennessee who are making the moves in his recruitment currently.
Having his brother committed doesn’t hurt, but in recruiting the work is never over even with committed prospects.
