This week, it’s been all about uniform reveals for the Ohio State football program. Not only did the program announce the all-black “Tunnel Vision” uniforms, but it also announced that the previously known “Heritage Stripe” gray sleeves will return to the home, away, and new all-black ensemble, though the redesign with Nike more closely matches the metallic silver helmets. To say that it all looks sharp would be an understatement.
On Friday, the OSU program went further and added two more uniform combinations that will also feature the gray sleeves. The “Scarlet Rush” uniform features solid red tops and bottoms for home games, as well as the “Sub Zero” all-white uniforms that the players could potentially wear on the road. Both will also have the gray sleeves to complete the uniform choices the program can dip into.
“Our players are fired up about these new combinations – from the Buckeye Stripe return to the all-black look making its way back,” head coach Ryan Day said in a statement.
For his part, though Athletic Director Ross Bjork is relatively new to the program, he, too, has gone all in with embracing the tradition of the new look gray sleeves.
“These core uniforms – with the Buckeye Stripe first introduced by legendary coach Woody Hayes and strength coach Ernie Biggs – exemplify how Ohio State football continues to build the best brand in the country,” Bjork said in a statement earlier this week. “Woody Hayes’ vision transformed the Buckeyes into a dynasty, and we’re always looking for ways to innovate while honoring those storied traditions.”

Now, Ohio State isn’t becoming Oregon with its dozens of uniform combinations, but having these beauties to add some variability and new age with the tradition already embedded into the program is something to get excited about.
We don’t yet know which games these uniforms will make an appearance in, but don’t be surprised if Ohio State at Texas on Sept. 12 in primetime has a little extra flair to it.
