Ohio State football WR Jeremiah Smith details late-season injury issue

Ohio State star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith said a strained quad led him to miss a win over Rutgers in November and limited him late in the regular season.

“Nothing really bothers me,” Smith said, “but that was something serious I had to deal with.”

When Smith was hurt in practice ahead of the previous game against UCLA on Nov. 15, the strain threatened to sideline him for an extended period of time.

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (4) shakes off Indiana Hoosiers defensive back D'Angelo Ponds (5) during the Big Ten Conference championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Dec. 6, 2025. Ohio State lost 13-10.

It was estimated to be a recovery lasting three to four weeks, but Smith returned to catch three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown in a win at Michigan on Nov. 30, helping the Buckeyes snap a four-game losing streak to their archrivals and finish with a perfect regular season.

“I had to do everything for the team,” Smith said. “I wanted to be out there. I did everything I could.”

Smith said he was not at full strength against the Wolverines.

“I’m going to be completely honest with you,” Smith said, “I was still kind of banged up a little bit.”

He offered nothing about how he felt for the Big Ten championship game, in which he had eight catches for 144 yards, but he did say the weekslong layoff between the Big Ten championship game on Dec. 6 and their game against Miami in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff have afforded him valuable time to rest.

“I’m back fully healthy,” he said.
