Ohio State LB Sonny Styles Is Correct Example for Future Buckeyes, Just As His Heroes Were

Ohio State Buckeyes' star linebacker Sonny Styles went to high school just 32 minutes away from Ohio Stadium. He was born just outside of Columbus, he was raised a Buckeye, and now he has taken the torch and become one of the true Buckeye Greats.

In an era of Ohio State Football that has the potential to be one of the greatest in the storied history of the program, he will be the focal point of all of the success.

Inside the body of the transformer that is Sonny Styles is the little boy who fell in love with the game of football, thanks to the Buckeyes. You bet that a young Sonny watched Braxton Miller's spin move against Virginia Tech, Ezekiel Elliot run right through the heart of the south, or Cardale Jones throw the Buckeyes to the National Championship.

It was in those days that Styles fell in love with football and made it his dream to play for the Scarlet and Gray.

Not only did he fulfill that dream, but he has become one of the greatest to ever put on an Ohio State uniform. In his final year in the program, he is having arguably his most impactful year without it being his best statistical season.

Last year, he was more in the Arvell Reese role, where he was free to play football and let Cody Simon call the defense. This year, Styles is by far the unquestioned leader for the Buckeyes, and he is, in my opinion, the most valuable member of the unit.

On the year, he has 80 tackles, five tackles for loss, half a sack and one interception on the year.

As the Buckeyes turn their attention to Miami and the College Football Playoff, he has the chance to lead this team into uncharted waters. Ohio State has never repeated as National Champions, and if they do today, they will live in royalty in Columbus, OH, for the rest of time.

Ohio State is 9.5 point favorites on…

To accomplish it, they will have to beat Miami, likely have to beat Georgia, and then some combination of Indiana, Alabama, Oregon, and Texas Tech.

Just as the road last year was one of the most challenging that they could have faced, this year's is exactly the same.

If Ohio State is to get back to the mountaintop this season, it will be in large part to Sonny Styles. And regardless of that outcome, Sonny Styles has definitely become a hero to Buckeye Nation and is held in the same regard as the heroes that he looked up to all that time ago.
