Spring has finally arrived in Columbus, Ohio. While the spring may officially be a couple weeks away for the rest of the country, for Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team, it starts today.

Today marks the start of Ohio State’s spring football practices. This year’s group of Buckeyes will take the field at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center this morning for the first time in preparation of the 2026-27 football season. While the Buckeyes will be hard at work preparing for the upcoming season and determining winners of crucial positional battles, these spring practices will also be a big recruiting tool for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are preparing to play host to many of the nation’s top prospects at the upcoming spring practices, highlighted by the spring game which takes place Saturday, April 18. The spring visitor list this year seems even larger than in years past and the Buckeyes will continue to add names to the list before spring practice season ends.

While recruiting news will certainly look to pick up this week, Ohio State found a way to still make the recruiting headlines on Monday when one of Ohio’s top prospects listed the Buckeyes in his newly-updated top three schools list.

2027 four-star interior offensive lineman Davis Seamon (Columbus, OH / Bishop Watterson) released his top three schools Monday and included Ohio State, Penn State and Auburn. The inclusion of all three are far from a surprise as the Buckeyes, Nittany Lions and Tigers have all been heavily targeting Seaman for much of his recruitment.

Of his three finalists, Ohio State appears to be the heavy favorite at this point of his recruitment. This is far from surprising as being from Ohio, Seaman has long been familiar with the Buckeyes. The close proximity has also helped Ohio State get him on campus more times than any other school.

Penn State is likely the Buckeyes biggest competition for Seaman but Auburn cannot be counted out completely, either. This is because the blue-chip lineman is intrigued by playing in the SEC and competing against some of the top college football programs in the nation every week.

While this is certainly achievable in the Big Ten (just look at Ohio State’s 2026 regular season schedule) it is impossible to argue the SEC doesn’t also present this opportunity.

Ohio State will need to get him back on campus again to keep him away from his other finalists, but this shouldn’t be a challenge. Look for the Buckeyes to try and get him back on campus in the coming months for a spring practice or the spring game and then again for an official visit, likely for an in-game visit — especially as he plays a position Ohio State is making a priority in the 2027 cycle.

The Buckeyes hold nine verbal commitments in their 2027 class, including three from offensive tackles. Ohio State holds commitments from four-star OT Kellen Wymer, and three-star OTs Mason Wilt and Brody McNeel but has yet to secure a commitment from an interior lineman. The Buckeyes will look to make multiple more additions to their current offensive line haul and Seaman would make for an excellent fit alongside those three.

Seaman is the No. 20 IOL in the 247Sports Composite and is the No. 405 national recruit. He is also the No. 2 OT and the No. 16 overall recruit from Ohio.
