The pieces are starting to come together for the 90th playing of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic between Ohio State and Miami. Both the Buckeyes and Hurricanes have arrived in Dallas and will have two days of practice in the Lone Star State before taking the field to see who has the right to move on to the CFP Semifinals.
Part of pregame preparations for both teams is who will play and who is out with injury. Ryan Day usually waits as long as possible to release the availability report; however, College Football Playoff rules require teams to post who’s likely not to play several days before the game is played. For the most part, each team will be at full capacity with both OSU and Miami without one starter.
For the Ohio State, it has been known for almost a month that Tegra Tshabola, who has started on the offensive line all season long, would be out, although he is listed as on the report as “Doubtful.” Tshebola has struggled in his role and will be replaced with a combination of Gabe VanSickle and Josh Padilla, both of whom have performed well in backup duties. The other name that stands out on the Buckeye report is Will Smith Jr., who has played meaningful minutes, giving All-American Kayden McDonald a breather. Smith is listed as “Probable.”
For the Hurricanes, the biggest name on the list ruled “Out” is defensive back Damari Brown, who started five games for Miami this season.
Here’s a look at the Cotton Bowl availability report for the matchup with the Hurricanes.

It remains to be seen if those playing backup to Tshabola will be an improvement to a position that has been seen as an area of weakness on the offensive line. Ohio State will need to play its best game of the season, protecting quarterback Julian Sayin and opening holes for the running backs for the Buckeyes to come out on top.
